Know Your Values

These past few years have been nothing but growth for me. This growth, though, came with so much disappointment and hurt but the lessons are so valuable that I can’t put a price to this. One of the things that I learned was the importance of truly knowing what your values are.

The reason why you want to know what your values are is because if you want to attract the kind of people that you need, the friendships that will truly nurture your soul, the loving man or woman that you want, etc. it’s important to know what you value. For instance, I realized these past two years that I truly value people who don’t consistently speak awful about others whether that be their family, friends, etc. Why? Because to me this shows me what the person is capable of saying even about me and it tells me what is in their heart.

When you know what you truly value, you will attract and let in those things and people that align with what you value. But unless you get a good understanding of who you are and what matters most to you, you can’t position yourself to allow only the things, people and situations that you truly want.

So, how do you know what your values are? Well, this comes with self-analysis. It comes with the willingness to go deep within you to understand what truly matters most to you. It takes a willingness to want to take the time for you to know who you are. And it takes a willingness to grow. Know that as you get older, your values may slightly change due to the experiences you have. Every encounter you have, every relationship, every circumstance will shape you in some way.

If you allow the growth, you allow the lessons that you are meant to learn. You will allow yourself to be a little better than yesterday. You will allow yourself more wisdom. It is through this growth that you will learn more about your own values.

When you know your values, you won’t waste your time on relationships that will just have you spiraling down. You don’t allow circumstances that don’t add to you. You are more willing to let go of the things that are not working for you no matter how good those things may look on the surface.

The values that I am referring to in today’s post are the ones that are truly aligned with your true essence. Know that there are times when we may have values that conflict with one another, which is something that I mention because of personal experience. I will get into conflicting values on another post. For now, it’s important that you become aware of the values that you know that will add to your life greatly. This is why in my coaching program, I coach people on knowing their deep down important values because this is part of mastering yourself to greater well-being.

So, if you find yourself in constant opposition to what you want in life, missing the mark or just not getting what you want, then you have to look into your values. This will help indicate to you the direction you need to be heading in life. I would like to invite you in today’s post to take a look at your values if you see anything that isn’t the way you want it to be.

The Positive and Negative of Everything

I’ve been pondering and asking myself why for many great things there has to be a negative to it. I’m working out this morning and although I love to workout and I’m helping my health with that, my hair has to be a nice mess afterwards. It makes me feel as if I have to choose between my body or my hair. Same thing with other decisions that I have to make, there are positives and negatives to everything. It makes me wonder why this is and this is what today’s post will be about.

I think one of the best comparisons to describe how life functions is a battery- it has a positive and a negative side. The battery, in order to function the way it is supposed to, needs both sides. If both sides are positive or negative, it just can’t work right. For as much as we would like for life to just have the positive, it can’t function if there is no negative.

So what’s the purpose of having both in our life? They both help balance each other out. This goes with everything in life. You can’t understand what true happiness is unless you know what sadness is. You can’t fully comprehend what true abundance is until you experience lack. You don’t fully appreciate your body until you get sick. You don’t fully appreciate the role someone plays in your life until you miss them. Certain places have to have their own downside because otherwise if it were to suite everyone, there would be a problem whether that problem is a place being overpopulated or very stressful, etc. This is what having the good and the bad can do, it can balance things out.

Balance is what contributes to your well-being and this is key. You need both sides in order to balance out your life. It is through balance that things can work in harmony. Nature intended it to be that way.

Having the negative along with the positive can bring out the creative side in us. This is because the negative can make you look for solutions as to how to a handle a situation. For example, I have to be creative with my hair in order to make it look nice after I workout. Certain things force the creative side of you and that is great.

So, if nature intended it this way, how can one handle the positives and the negatives when making certain decisions? When it comes to making decisions, you have to see what weighs more for you. It’s a matter of knowing who you are and knowing what matters most to you.

When it comes to cases where the negatives of something highly impacts your well-being, if it’s a decision that you made to have that positive in your life but it comes at a high price, then you have to mold yourself to the negative. What I mean with this is to find a way to work around the negative. For instance, if it’s a job that affects your health due to odd hours of work, then create your life and make a schedule that can still fit your job. The point is that you want to work with what you have and make the most of it.

Life indeed is like a battery with its positive and negative sides and both are needed in order for things to work in harmony. Both sides are needed in order to have balance in life. I encourage you to start looking at everything from this perspective.

The Real Definition of Strength and Being Strong

Many times we mistaken certain qualities of a person of strength and who is strong for weaknesses that I feel it is important to write about the real definition of strength and being strong just so we don’t get certain things confused.

There will be times in life when our strength will be tested and during times where we have every right to to feel the way we do, certain emotions and actions may be interpreted as weaknesses. I would first like to describe what a person who is strong and of strength is.

A person of strength is someone who shows courage despite the fear. It is someone who does what they can to handle the most difficult situation in the best way they can. This doesn’t mean that they don’t feel resistance with the challenge that is put on their path, not at all. It means that they accept the way they feel, they know they have the right to feel the way they do and they do their best to work through what they are going through. It is someone who does their best to see the positive in their situation. It is someone who puts their best foot forward. It is someone who doesn’t give up even when they feel like it.

A strong person is someone who is creative because they know that despite the circumstances, they have to make things work. It is someone that even when they are down, they still lift others up. It is someone who reaches out for help when they know they need it. It is someone who has the courage to cry when something prompts their tears to fall down their eyes.

As you can read, being strong doesn’t mean that you don’t feel pain, that you are always happy, that everything is going super well for you, that you are superman or superwoman or that your life is all well put together. Not at all! This is because life is not always well put together. That’s because there will always be something put on your path that will challenge you. That’s because you are only human and it is ok to feel sad once in a while when a situation does take you to that point. It is ok to feel pain when a loved one is sick or even passed. It is ok to love and then feel hurt when that love is not corresponded.

It is time that we start giving the real definition to what having strength and being strong mean because for your well-being it is a must to know that life happens, there will be things that will hurt you and there will be times where you will be challenged. There is nothing wrong with seeking help when you need it. That actually makes you a very strong person because it takes maturity to admit when one needs help. If there is any doubt in you as to whether or not you are strong due to circumstances in your life that are challenging, I hope this definition sheds some light to you and provides you with the comfort that you are still a strong person.

Are You Really Living Your True Life? If Not, How Can You Know?

The past three days have been a bit emotional for me for reasons that what I really want out of life came to the surface and I came to the realization of several things of which I’m pretty sure there are others who feel the same and it is for this reason that in today’s post I ask you to ask yourself…are you really living your true life? If not, how can you know?

Sometimes we live the life that we live because we are trying to please others or we live it because that’s what others think we should be doing. Sometimes we live the life that we live because we are being there for someone else. Sometimes it is our own fear that stops us or even our limiting beliefs that hinder us of being the person we want to be. There are times that when we are just going with the flow of things, we are subconsciously numbing who we truly are and what we are really feeling, making a huge mistake which can be costly. For this reason in today’s post, I would like to discuss how can you know when you are not living your true life.

Pay attention to your emotions. I have said it and wrote before that your emotions are just feedback from your soul. If you wake up every morning hating your life, or not happy with life for whatever reason,  you hate going to your job, you feel sad for no reason, etc, these are things to start paying attention to. You can’t nor should you ignore these feelings because it is an indication that something is seriously wrong in your life and that something has to change. This is equivalent to when your body is giving you symptoms that something is wrong which is an indication that an illness may be developing and you are just ignoring it. Feeling constantly in a negative state is not normal!

Pay attention to your body. There are times when your body has physical manifestations of some emotional or mental hurt that you have. When you are constantly suppressing a yearning, a hurt, an anger, these have to go somewhere. There are times when it comes out as a physical pain whether that is constant headaches, joint pain, etc. If you feel this pain when you are in an environment or in a situation and that same pain goes away when you are away from that environment or situation, that is a sure sign that something you have been suppressing is manifesting physically. Don’t ignore this sign!

Pay attention to the things that you feel strongly about or connect very strongly to something you see or hear. Those are signs from your higher and true self that you are meant to be doing those things and having those things. There are times that one may think that if they don’t have a particular thing that they desire then perhaps that isn’t meant for them when that is not the case. There are times that we may subconsciously numb that desire and as a result we think that we are not meant to have that. Strong feelings or strong connections to things you see and hear are indications that those are things for you to pursue and keep believing in having them. Keep believing that you will have those things which you feel so strongly for!

Well-being is about you living greatly, you living passionately and living authentic to you who truly are regardless of what others may think or feel. This is your life to live, nobody is living this life for you, therefore, you need to live it according to your authentic you.

You Will Always Be Tested…

I think about how my life has been like for over a year now and there is nothing else I can say or describe how life has been other than full of tests. Tests of courage, tests of faith, tests of patience, tests of strength, tests of endurance, Life will even provide you with tests of others which will help you see who is who in your life. All these tests are part of building you into the person that you are meant to be- a person with great well-being.

Although it would be so great to say that life is always great, that life is nothing but wonderful and don’t get me wrong, life is great when you look at the big picture. However, when challenges come your way, the best way to deal with these challenges is by looking at them as tests. So with this said, how can you pass these tests? You pass these tests by asking yourself several questions which are the following: “What am I meant to learn from all this?”, “How can I be a better person because of this?”, “In what ways am I meant to mature because of this?”, “How is this preparing me for the person that I am meant to become?”.

When I look back at certain “tests” I had that I felt I had failed, what I had failed to realize then is that those “tests” that I thought I failed I didn’t fail at all. Those were lessons that I was meant to learn for the bigger gift that was in store for me. There are different levels of tests that we all face. Some are bigger and more difficult than others but nonetheless, even the small tests are very important because there is so much value you can get from them.

With this post, I would like to encourage you that if you are going through any difficulty in life, anything that you are struggling with, start looking for those lessons that you are meant to learn and become better because of it. It doesn’t matter how big or small that difficulty may be, there are jewels hidden in those painful experiences. All we can do as humans is just grow from each situation because difficulties are a part of life but it doesn’t have to ruin our life. Pass these tests and you will see that great things can be in store for you because of the lessons you learned. Part of well-being is also passing these tests, believe it or not, because unless you learn, you will never grow as a person.

Know that with everything and anything, you will always be tested…
