You Are More Than You Think You Are

Many times we may think that what we feel or think is just crazy or we feel the need to hear something that we already know but we need to hear it from someone else in order to believe it. Believing that you are more than you think you are will give you the confidence that who you want to be is possible, that what you want to achieve is reachable. This all ties in to self-esteem and self-esteem is part of well-being.

How can you start believing that you are more than you think you are when you never thought more of yourself? You do this by taking baby steps. Start by doing your best to achieve something that may be small. Don’t rest until you achieve this. After achieving that small goal, you will gain the confidence that you can achieve other goals as well and you will be more ambitious to achieve another goal but this time a big one. Every goal that you achieve is a step closer to feeling and believing that you are more than you think you are.

What has helped me a lot has been giving myself some quiet time to listen to myself in order for me to know what it is that I want and feel. If I feel an inclination to do something, even if I don’t know why I want to do it, I do it anyways. This act of daring to listen to myself despite any fears I may have has helped me work my courage muscle and self-confidence muscle. The one thing to remember about this is that feeling that you are more than you think you are will take time. There will be good days and bad days. Take things as it is and don’t resist the bad feelings you may feel because this is also part of working that mental/emotional “I am more than I think I am” muscle. You learn from both the good and the bad.

Turn off other people’s voices. I truly believe that no one really truly knows what you are capable of but you, if only you trust yourself. There are times when unfortunately other people may place their insecurities on you, discouraging you from doing or being something or they just may not understand what you are trying to do. I honestly believe that although other people may mean well, only you can truly know what you want. In order for you to see and manifest that you truly are more than you think you are, listening to yourself is crucial, but not that critical, judgmental voice of yours, no. You have to listen to what your soul wants. I believe listening to your soul will be key to you unlocking your potential.

You are more than you think you are and the faster you start to believe this, the faster you will be all that you are designed to be. It is your birthright to reach your potential and be the person you are designed to be- healthy, strong, happy, energetic, positive, beaming with light. You are more than you think you are and it’s a matter of taking the first step of believing this. It will take time but this is worth working on. You truly are more than you think you are!

Where To Find Inspiration When You May Feel You Have None

There are good days and bad days. Days when you will feel on top of the world and days when you feel like blah. So with this said, where do you find inspiration when you feel like you have none?

I think that when you look for that inspiration outside of yourself, you may find that you may be a bit disappointed because you look onto someone or something (and with this I’m referring to material stuff)  to give you what you think you will find outside of you. It is when you stop for a minute and quiet your mind that you can find that peace that perhaps you need and that inspiration to keep moving forward. Nature also provides so much for us to feel inspired. For me, it’s looking up at the sky that for some reason, this provides a sense of peace for me. It is my faith in something higher, God in this case, that keeps me inspired. That faith that good things are coming despite the moment I may be living.

Inspiration, we may find it outside of us but if you want lasting inspiration, you will find that inspiration already lives within you. You already are a source of inspiration for someone and may not even know it. One thing I would like to add is that if you depend on feeling inspired in order to get things done, you may not live life to the fullest because you won’t always be inspired but yet you should encourage yourself always to live life to the fullest, regardless of what life throws at you.

What does this have to do with well-being? Well-being includes different aspects of our lives. Many times we wait to be inspired in order to start that project we had in mind. We wait to feel inspired in order to start losing weight or eat healthy. We wait to be inspired in order to start living life. With this said, despite the challenges of life, despite the downs you may have, despite any disappointment you may feel, dare to live life to the fullest! Dare to inspire yourself to a great life! Inspire yourself to be more today than you were yesterday! Believe it or not, that inspiration always lives inside of you.

Reminders of Abundance

There are times that we may feel hopeless, doubtful, feel scarcity, feel emptiness or sadness. Perhaps it may be because you are currently in a bad situation either financially, in regards to health or relationship, etc. Perhaps what you see around you are situations that seem pitiful (i.e. people around you who may seem miserable or unhappy). Perhaps you had dreams that you never accomplished for whatever the reason may be and feel hopeless or you may feel that certain things are just out of your reach. Perhaps you have some limiting beliefs that are stopping you from having happiness and prosperity. Whatever it is, all these things can be like a heavy weight pulling you down and make you feel like life is full of lacks and limitations. When we feel this way is when we truly need to remind ourselves of all the abundance that is out there not just for others but for ourselves as well.

Whenever you need a reminder of abundance, just think of the air we breathe. We all need air and despite this need, there is still an abundance of it. Just look at the sky so vast. Since I was a child, I love to look up at the sky because it reminds me and it always made me feel like the sky is truly the limit and that anything is possible. Remind yourself that you can walk, that is a blessing. That you can see, how wonderful it is to see! That you can hear, if you have health, you have gold in your hands! There are so many reminders of abundance all around us that many times we get so stuck on the small stuff that we don’t even realize it. And if for whatever reason you can’t see or hear or walk, you STILL have blessings. Those are not the worst disabilities, the worst one is the one of the mind, the one where WE are the ones who limit ourselves.

Whenever you feel stuck or have any feeling that puts you down, remind yourself of all the abundance around you! Even if you have to think about the smallest thing, do so because believe it or not, the smallest thing that you think is not a blessing is truly a blessing.

How does all this tie to well-being? This has everything to do with well-being because to have a balanced, prosperous life where you are truly living to the fullest, mentally and emotionally you have to be in the right place. The body follows the mind and vice versa. If you think little of yourself, if you think negative, every cell in your body feels this as well and responds accordingly.

Truly one of the greatest things you can do to add more well-being into your life is to remind yourself often of all the abundance that you have.

The Importance of Having an Outlet

I’m a believer that no matter what our responsibilities are, no matter how many things we have to do, it is necessary to have an outlet.

What is an outlet? Just like we use an outlet to charge our electronic devices, an outlet for us would be an activity or something that helps us recharge our batteries so that we can have the energy to do all the other things that we have to do. It is that outlet that gives us strength, it helps us deal with the everyday life. An outlet can be an activity (i.e. yoga, meditation, exercise, reading, etc.)  or a place that gives us a sense of peace. An outlet is like an “escape” to what we are doing every day. That outlet can also be a good friendship that we may have. The activity is up to you. There are so many things that one can do in order to entertain the mind and soul and thus have more health in every sense.

Why is it important to have this? When we live just to work, just to take care of the family, just to fulfill our everyday duties without having something that we do just for us that we truly enjoy, we can burn out. We can get to a point of boredom. When there is a great responsibility on us and we have no outlet to recharge our batteries, we can have a mental breakdown. Cultivating other areas of our life is just as important for our health and well-being like it is to be eating right. When we don’t place any importance on our mental, emotional and spiritual self, we may just start to slip. We may feel like things are going downhill and not understand why when the solution can be something as simple as having an activity that we enjoy for ourselves.

Part of taking care of ourselves is being able to have things that we enjoy doing, having people whose company we truly enjoy, anything that is healthy for our mind and soul. Beware of Your Needs

Needs are needs and they are to be acknowledged and respected. We all have a need to be loved, to be needed, to feel connected and a part of something, etc and these are all natural needs. Nothing wrong with them, except when we allow our needs to take over and rule our way of thinking, feeling and behaving in ways that compromise our well-being.

This is why I wrote for the title of this post “beware of your needs” because no matter what need it is, that need, if it’s not in check, can take over you and turn you into a person that you are not otherwise. Balance in everything is important and it also important when it comes to your needs.

I think one of the best ways to balance out your needs is by putting as a priority your sense of peace and well-being. When you make your sense of peace and well-being a priority, no matter how much you may want something, you will judge whether it is worth having what you need based on how it makes you feel and whether or not it adds to your life. A perfect example I can think of is when your need is to be in a romantic relationship. That is a normal need to have but when your priority is your sense of peace and well-being, when someone that may seem like a good candidate comes along, you will be a better judge of whether or not this person is worth having in your life because you are not as hungry for that need since something else has a bigger priority. The problem with needs is not the need itself but the intensity of that need. Feeling hungry is normal but when you are starving, even a salty meal tastes yummy although it is not good for you. This is why I suggest that when having a need, offset it by making something else that truly is important like your peace and well-being a priority so you are not as hungry and settle for something unhealthy for you. Just like you would have a snack in between breakfast and lunch so that by the time it is lunchtime you are not starving, there are other ways that you can better handle that need you have and something else needs to be a priority for you to control the intensity of that need. “How can the whole snacking in between meals be compared to needing a romantic relationship?” you may ask and the answer to this is that I think the secret to not being so hungry for a need is to have other things going on that somewhat satisfies that need that you have. For example, cultivating other healthy relationships such as friendships and family can help when it comes to a longing you may have.

There is nothing worse for your sense of well-being than losing your center and balance in life. When you do lose these things, you become someone you are not, you make choices that are not right for you, you settle for situations that are not healthy for you so in essence, you are compromising your well-being. Nothing is worth you compromising your well-being, not even a need.

How to Bring Some Sunshine When Everything Around You Seems Cloudy

Everyday the weather changes. When it comes to the weather, we also go through different seasons. These changes in weather and seasons can make us feel different, changing our mood at times.

Just like the weather, we go through changes in our life. We go through changes inside of us. And the challenge is not when it is all sunshine and great but when it gets cloudy around us. It is when things start to get cloudy around us that our mood can change, leading us to perhaps feeling unmotivated, sad and losing our focus. For this reason, in today’s post, I would like to share how to bring some sunshine when everything around you seems cloudy.

The first thing to bring some sunshine into your life is to start taking responsibility for how you feel. This may not seem like it’s a ray of sunshine but it is because it is bringing the power back to you. So if you are feeling sad, this is because you want to feel sad. Now you may say to yourself “well Aura, I don’t want to feel sad.” Well, if you are to take responsibility for how you are feeling, this means that you make a choice as to how you are going to feel. So you can choose to change how you feel. One thing I need to clarify, if you have a real reason for feeling sad such as having a sick loved one, etc., then you need to allow yourself to feel your emotions. Just know that staying in this feeling for way too long won’t help your health and it is a must to put a time limit on how you feel so you don’t spiral down.

The second thing you can do to bring some sunshine into your life is to change your focus. I said it before and I will say it again, what you focus on magnifies. If you are noticing a pattern in your life, that’s because that is what you are focusing on. You get what you decide to see all the time. You get what you focus on the most. You change your focus by making a decision to pay attention to something else. Keep changing your focus to something that you like until you are used to just focusing on what you want.

The third thing you can do to bring some sunshine into your life is to change the conversation that you have in your head. Yes, we all have chatters in our mind. If the chatter you have in your mind is toxic, what do you think your outer environment will be? It will be toxic as well. You change what’s toxic by replacing it with something positive. Because I know how challenging changing one’s self-talk can be, I have a beautiful surprise in store for you that will be coming up soon. Be on the look out for that.

The fourth thing you can do to bring some sunshine into your life is to be aware of the people you allow in your personal space. I wrote about the importance of choosing your friends right as well as your companion right in the book Creating a Lifetime of Wellness. I can’t stress enough how important your environment is to your overall well-being. You become like the people that you surround yourself by. The people around you can influence the way you feel about yourself and your life. Choose to be around people who are loving. Choose to be around people who love themselves. Choose to be around people who lift you up.

Bringing some sunshine when everything around you seems cloudy is ultimately up to you. Take that power back and start bringing into your life some sunshine.

The Same Ol’ Same Ol’……

I would like to discuss this on today’s post because many times the reason why we feel so bored, frustrated, stuck, down, among other “negative” emotions that just rob our joy of living is precisely that- the same ol’ same ol’.

There are times when things being just the way they are is a great thing because things can always be worse. But, if this is the way you are feeling about your life, it is a matter of time for “negative” emotions to come to the surface.

Life becomes enjoyable when there is spice in our life. The truth is that we need a little bit of everything in order to feel great about life. Too much is the same as too little, as the saying goes in Italian. It’s in having a bit of everything that you are able to have balance.

One thing that you must remember is that you are the one who puts that spice in your life. No one else can do that for you. You are the one who knows exactly the recipe to your exciting life. No one else can get it quite like you can.

Now, you may be fooled into thinking that you need others in order to add that spice to life. Yes, your relationship with others is very important and others do play a role in your overall well-being but, one thing you must remember is that every relationship starts first with you.

In order for you to be able to add that spice in your life, you have to be right within you. You need to be centered, fully nurtured, fully loved, fully taken care of, fully appreciated and all this must first come from you.

You are the one who needs from you first. Others don’t need you first; remember that you are the one who needs you first. This is because only from a place of you being so full that you are able to give your best to others. It is only from a place of love that you are able to give genuine love to others.

Your spice will come from you knowing yourself so well to the point that you do and give yourself exactly what you need in order to be fully happy. Your spice will come from feeling so secure within yourself and that security comes from within. You get that security through self-mastery- there is no other way around it.

If you find yourself saying “same ol’ same ol’ ” and this just doesn’t feel good to you, it’s time to add some spice in your life. It’s time to shake things up a bit. It’s time for a change. Change for everyone will mean something different and it will be different for everyone. It could mean a change in your routine, a change in mindset, a change of job, where you live, etc.

Know that your life is not meant to be stagnant. Know that you are not meant to settle for something that just doesn’t feel right. Know that none of this leads to greater well-being. It’s important that you take responsibility for this and make the change necessary in order to make your life into one that you love.

What Is Your Hidden Disease?

Sometimes what we have to be careful with is not with what we know but what we don’t know. Why? Because it’s what we don’t know what can hurt us the most. It’s said that knowledge is power and it is true. But it’s not just knowledge that provides us with power, awareness is also power in its own way.

How is awareness power? Awareness is equivalent to a light being shined on something. When you shine the light on something, it’s no longer in the dark. It’s no longer something you don’t know. It’s no longer something that can sabotage you. It’s no longer something that can creep up on you.

Many times the reason why we don’t have the life how we quite want it- we attract things we don’t want, have relationships that are below satisfying, don’t find ourselves quite where we want to be or even sabotage good things that come our way- is because there are things that are not in our awareness that are messing us up.

It is for this reason that I ask you what is your hidden disease. Is it low self-esteem that you may not be aware of? Is it a past experience that has traumatized you in some way? Is it a limiting belief? Is it some kind of emotion that has become toxic? There are many things that can actually block us tremendously without our awareness.

All these things I just mentioned above are just some of the many hidden diseases that may be hidden without us knowing. They are hidden diseases because they spread, contaminating our whole life, paralyzing us and preventing us from enjoying greater well-being.

Many times we don’t know about these hidden diseases until it is so obvious that something is seriously wrong. Just like when we physically don’t know that the body is ill until we see symptoms that we just can’t ignore. These hidden diseases are always giving us signs but many times we tend to ignore them. If you want greater well-being, it is important that you don’t ignore these signs.

Don’t let hidden diseases get the best of you. Know that you are the one in control at all times of yourself and your life. Yes, there are certain things you don’t have control but those things are external things like the weather, other people’s actions and choices, etc. But when it comes to your inner self, you are the one in control.

It’s Important to Laugh at Yourself

I shared this message on the Facebook page, @AuraEMartinezCoach, but I will share it here as well since I think it is a very important message to share.

I would first like to share that Monday, March 4th I went to Cancun, Mexico for a personal development and training event because I truly believe that in order for me to be able to offer the best to you, I have to treat myself with the best and be coached and mentored. The day that I arrived, I was so sleepy since I was already jet lagged. On top of that, I woke up very early for that flight so I hardly slept that night.

Going straight to the chase, I was so out of it that day that when I arrived, I thought I left my room key on the bench that’s in front of the restaurant where I ate that day. It wasn’t until the waiter asked me my room number that I realized, looking in my purse, that I didn’t have the key. So the waiter checked the bench, it wasn’t there. She checked inside the menu the key wasn’t there. At that point I was a bit freaked out at the thought that someone else took the key because I was convinced I had left it on the bench. So I asked the waiter to put the food on hold, which I already ordered, and went to the reception desk to change rooms. That’s when I was given another key to activate the new one and deactivate the old one. When I got to the room because I wanted to activate the new key, the old key that I thought I left on the bench was in the bathroom.

Then for dinner, I went out with my business bestie and when it came time to pay, yes I had pesos but my mind just couldn’t do any conversion anything or anything foreign, again, I was so out of it. So for some reason I didn’t see the 500 pesos bills, I thought they were 100 pesos, didn’t see the 5. The waiter thanked me so much and she was so kind to let me know that she couldn’t accept the tip because it was too high of a tip. That’s when I realized that I had given a $100 dollars tip basically. Yeah, I know!

Theeeennnn, when I arrived to my room, I had all my mini liquids in a Ziploc bag and in it was a clear nail polish. So the bag just slipped out of my hand, fell on the floor and the nail polish broke. So there was clear nail polish all over the little bottles inside the Ziploc bag and the french manicure that I had done got all smeared because of the clear nail polish. There goes my french manicure! And to top it off, I went downstairs in the hotel to the spa place to see if they sell clear nail polish. Well, they had every other color EXCEPT the clear nail polish, of course. At this point at the spa I’m trying on colors that may be close to a clear nail polish and I found one and tried to put some on and as I was doing that, the lady at the spa was like “You can’t do that ma’am because that is for the spa”.

Looking back it was such a comical day. I just laughed the whole day at the whole situation because even though I was in that situation, it was still funny. So the message I want to share with you is that it’s important to learn how to laugh at yourself.

It’s important because life is also about you making a fool out of yourself. It’s about hiccups. It’s about things not going perfect. It’s about disappointments. When you expect things to go exactly how you want them to go, things will go south pretty fast because you will feel that life is not meeting your expectations. Instead, choose to believe and remember that life is ALWAYS meeting your expectations no matter what. Choose to forgive yourself for your mistakes or things not going right. Choose to laugh whenever you make a fool out of yourself. Choose to know that it is ok if you don’t know this or that. And if someone says something stupid, laugh. What other people say is NONE of your business. What other people think is NONE of your business.

The faster you can laugh at all the things that go wrong in your life, the better you will feel about things and things rather than go down, they will start going up. Know that you have a choice in your thoughts and beliefs. Just like I mentioned on my social media, what are you choosing to think and feel today? That matters.

Are You Connected With Yourself?

Last year was challenging and scary for me because I got to experience something I had never experienced before. It all started with lightheadedness that lasted for days. Then after days of feeling this way, on my father’s second year since his passing, I experienced what seemed like a panic attack.

A frightened emotion swept me and shook me to the core. I felt it all in my chest. What I had experienced led me to feeling lightheaded again the next day. I had to go to the doctor for the second time. The irony of it all is that everything physically is fine. But I knew I wasn’t fine.

Days passed and I felt sadness. All this led me to think something was seriously wrong. A friend of mine told me that he thinks this is psychosomatic. I thought he may just be right. Then I realized something that I just need to share.

I came to the realization that NO ONE is immune to feeling sad or anxious, even the strongest person can fall prey to this. Then in the wake of Kate Spade’s news of her passing and what some say that she had suffered from depression and anxiety I came to a conclusion. I am pretty sure that depression, anxiety, any of the strong, negative emotions, that then one experiences physically, is a disconnection from the self and the divine.

In this blog post, I want to encourage and remind you that you are STRONGER than you think you are! You are SMARTER than you think you are! You are LOVED more than you can possibly imagine! You are FORTUNATE! You are HEALTHY! You are WHOLE!

It is the belief that you are none of these things that can lead to physical manifestations and illnesses. It is the belief that you are not enough, your daily habits, the people that you surround yourself by, the thoughts and feelings you have, your perception of your experiences, you not feeling ALL of your emotions, including grief, all this can lead to ailments.

The one relationship that must be solid in order for you to be healthy mentally, emotionally and physically is the one with yourself. Always make sure to be connected with yourself. How do you do that? You do that by being aware of how you feel. Be aware of what you feel drawn to do or see. Be aware of how things make you feel. Be aware of what your soul asks you to do. Then honor your soul. Whatever makes you feel down, know that you feel that way for a reason and that reason is that whatever it is that makes you feel that way is not a match to who you really are.

Anything that you feel do not ignore. Don’t make objects more important than your health. Do things every single day that makes you happy. Honor your soul by making it happy. You go first because unless you make yourself happy, you can’t make anyone else happy. You are constantly receiving guidance; don’t ignore it. Learn to trust it. It is the trusting that will lead you to a great life.

Connect yourself to your body. Pay attention to the way it feels. You are a soul living a human experience. Your body is the vessel that your soul chose to reside in. Your body is sending you feedback from your soul as well. Pay attention to that. Honor it. Once again, learn to trust the message your body is giving you.

I hope this post encourages you to start trusting yourself and to connect to yourself every single day. Remember that you are NOT the labels that society may place on you. Choose your own labels. Your labels should be “I am HEALTHY”, “I am LOVE”, “I am SMART”, “I am ENOUGH”, “I am GUIDED”. You are always guided. Believe that. Know that you are never alone. These are the labels that will add great well-being to your life and help you connect with yourself.
