Are You Focusing On The Wrong Things?

There can be many reasons as to why someone doesn’t have the life that they want. Every situation is different and everyone is unique. Of the many reasons as to why you may not have the life that you want, one of the many reasons can be your focus. So with this said, are you focusing on the wrong things?

When you focus on the wrong things, you can miss out on the bigger picture of your life. You can make yourself miserable if you focus is on things, situations, or people that are not worth your energy and you can even be missing out on the greatness that already exist in your life. Focusing on the wrong things can make you waste your precious time that you can be utilizing on things that truly matter. And depending on the situation, the wrong focus can be costly mentally, emotionally, physically and even financially in certain circumstances. This is how important your focus is in your life.

There will be times in our life, though, when we will lose our focus because there are times when the circumstances of life can get in the way. For instance, when a family member is sick, the lose of a loved one, the lose of a relationship, etc. The kind of focus that I am referring to on this post is the one where you constantly focus on the things, situations or people that really are not worth your energy nor your time. This is the kind of focus that you must shift if you want a balanced, fulfilling, happy life.  This is the kind of focus that can hurt you in so many ways if you are not careful.

Whenever you start feeling miserable, overwhelmed and just overall exhausted with where you are in life, consider where your focus is. It might just be that a change in your focus may be what can be the game changer in your life.

Are You Wasting Your Time?

There are many times when we may not even realize it until it is too late that all we have been doing in life is wasting our time. Sometimes what makes us come to this realization is either a sickness, a disability, a loss of some sort and none of this is necessary for us to come to this realization.

Now, this question that I just asked on the title will have different answers for everyone. That’s because everyone’s definition of living life and enjoying life will be different. What I may find as enjoyment may be different for someone else. So for this reason, you can’t go to anyone else for an answer, you have to look within you.

Even though the answer to this question will be different for everyone, there are some basic things that I think are time wasters for everyone no matter how different we may all be for certain things. Time wasters would be being angry at others, being worried all the time, not working on the relationships that truly matter most, taking those you love for granted, focusing on things that are no longer in your present life or focusing on what could have been but isn’t, being angry with Life for the things that you don’t have in life or for what was taken away from you. All these things are what I call paralyzers because they do just that, they paralyze you. They paralyze you mentally, physically and emotionally. They don’t help you move forward and see all the goodness that you still have. They make you blind. They hinder you from enjoying life.

Being angry at someone else is not hurting the other person, it is hurting you. The other person may not even be aware of what you are feeling but you are and that can make you even more angry because it does hurt to know that you care while the other person doesn’t. Depending on what it is that made you angry, that anger may be easy to let go or not. Whatever it is that made you angry, know that by continuing to feel this way, the only person who are hurting is yourself. There are times when other people may not even mean to harm us and so this is another reason why it is not worth getting so angry. As my very good friend Dawn reminded me over and over, no one can make you feel a certain way unless you allow them.

Being worried all the time is just paralyzing in every aspect. It paralyzes you mentally because the worry that you feel can stop you from thinking of making the right decision. It paralyzes you physically because the worry can make you not want to take any action. We usually worry about something that hasn’t happened yet and this stops us from living the present moment. If you want to be able to look at your past and think of it with good thoughts and feelings, then you must enjoy this moment because this moment will be past. Besides, worry just attracts more of the things that you are worried about.

One of the things that matters so much in life is the relationships we have in our life. Not cultivating them is, to me, equivalent to not saving money and the reason for this is because whether you realize it or not, the relationships that you have with others are an investment. What you give to others is what you get back. Family is one thing we tend to take for granted and think about this, when you are in your down moments, it isn’t a job or strangers who will be there for you, it is your family and close friends so make time for those you love and love you.

I can tell you that focusing on what no longer was in my present paralyzed me for a bit and made me waste my time by not looking forward. That is what focusing on what could have been but isn’t, focusing on what you no longer have and what you feel Life has taken away from you do to you, it keeps you from looking forward. I know it can be challenging at times but it is a must to look forward to more goodness in life. Part of life is transitioning from one stage of life to the next and we must embrace this if we are to be happy.

So now I challenge you to think whether or not you are wasting your time. This simple question can transform the way your life is right now if there is any part of it that you are not happy with and can add more well-being to you.

Make Your Own Vows

Today, the day after my birthday, I had a voice inside me advice me of certain things which I know was my intuition and it’s something that I would like to share with you. I feel like sharing this because I think these things that my intuition is advising me are things that we should all be doing on a daily bass. Here it goes…

“Aura, from this day forward, I want you to make several vows because life is too beautiful and awfully short to be focusing on all the things that are not serving you. I want you to make a vow to focus more on yourself. Do more of the things that make you happy. Focus on making yourself happy because that is your main responsibility. Take care of your health no matter what. Focus on those who truly love you and forget those who couldn’t see your value. Let go of those who hurt you and love more those who love you. Let go of your fears. You can’t live on fear since fear paralyzes you. Be more of who you are. And since your relationships mean so much to you, again, let go of those who can’t see your value and focus and love those who do. Make this promise to yourself, please.”

This is the kind of vow that we all need to make to ourselves. To your vows you can add whatever it is that you know you need to work on more in your life. We make vows to our spouse and loved ones but many times we may fail to make that vow to ourselves. I personally know what it’s like to struggle with certain issues and I can tell you that not learning how to deal with them can hinder you from your best. I know what it is like to allow your fear to take over. This stops you from fully growing. I also know what it is like to focus on the wrong things and people. Those that are meant to be in your life will have the capacity to see you exactly for who you are and still stay in your life.

I share this with you because I want to challenge you to make your own vows and to commit to them because committing to your own vows can add tremendously to your well-being. Well-being doesn’t start with anything or anybody else. It starts with you.

The Necessity of Having Passion in Life

Passion is a word that is most used in regards to love or lust. However, did you know that in order to have a life full of meaning and purpose then passion is a must? This is what today’s post is about.

Passion is so necessary when it comes to life because passion is what can provide you with the fuel that you need in order to get things done. We are emotional beings and as emotional beings we are driven by our emotions. Having passion for something is what lights you up and gets you moving. Passion is what can provide you with the motivation that you need in order to accomplish a goal. Passion is the feeling behind the purpose.

Without passion, it almost feels as if you have to drag yourself to do things. Things start to feel either bland or heavy and this is not how life is meant to be lived. Without passion, life can feel without much purpose. This is because there isn’t something that is lighting up your soul which is your true essence. Whatever it is that can light up your soul may be different from others around you and that is ok. You were not designed to be like others. You were designed to be you. When you have no passion in life, I believe this is an indicator that you are out of alignment with who you truly are and this is certainly one of the consequences of not being in alignment. Without passion, I believe you can’t be your best you for others because you can only offer your best to others when you are passionate about your life and who you are.

If you don’t have any passion already I recommend you start having passion for life. Life is full of so many things and you are full of so many things as well. There are many qualities to you that make you unique and special. There are times when there are things about us that we may be unaware, jewels that we possess that are hidden within us and it is up to us to start digging for them. I believe everyone has it in them to be passionate about their life, it’s just a matter of figuring out what that is that will take them to that level in their life.

Passion is a must if you want to have a life full of happiness, growth and health. It helps balance your life and this is so necessary for your well-being. I recommend that you start figuring out now what are you passionate about and start living your living according to your passions. This will add tremendous health and happiness into your life.

The Importance of Seeing the Bigger Picture

About two weeks ago I spoke with a good friend of mine and after she shared with me how wonderful her weekend was, I shared with her something that got me all worked up. It was something of no importance in comparison to the grand scheme of things but at the moment of that (what irritated me) happening, I couldn’t help but feel that way. This makes me wonder how many of us get so worked up over meaningless things that are not even worth our energy.

I write this post because just like the way I felt that day, I bet many other people feel that way only on a constant basis. If this is the case, it is crucial to see the bigger picture. When you allow yourself to get caught up on the day to day things that happen, you can lose sight of the bigger picture. And what is that bigger picture? The bigger picture means whatever that bigger picture is for you since it can mean different things to different people. The bigger picture that I think is so universal to everyone is knowing that at the end of the day, whatever made you angry is really nothing. Remembering that there are bigger things that matter most like family, your true friends, having health, having stability whatever that stability is for you.

By allowing yourself to get all caught up on the day to day things, you are robbing yourself of health. How so? Every time you get so worked up over little things, you waste your precious energy that you can be utilizing towards more productive things. Every time you get angry, your body changes and not in a good way. It is hard to focus on the positive when all you see is that one thing that irritated you.

One thing that I would like to clarify is that I am not saying to ignore what you feel or act like what bothers you doesn’t bother you. You are human after all and as a human being, you are an emotional being as well so it is only normal and natural to get angry or annoyed sometimes. It is important to feel your emotions but not let your emotions rule over you.

By seeing the bigger picture, you don’t allow yourself to get caught up on the day to day stuff that can be sometimes irritating and this is because you have in the front of your mind what really matters to you. By seeing the bigger picture, you allow the things that don’t matter to just slide down and not get to you. Someone said that every morning he puts butter all over him from head to toe, that way nothing sticks to him and I just love this analogy. It is something to do mentally every morning because the truth is that there will be things that will irritate you but it is not worth to allow that to get to you. For your overall well-being, it is important to learn to see the bigger picture and not allow things that don’t really matter get to you.

How To Gain Focus In Life

I’ve had several conversations lately that I found quite interesting because there was a common theme in every conversation. The people I spoke with all wanted many things out of life and what they felt they lacked was not money nor time, as one would perhaps think. What they felt they lacked was focus.

Focus is a very important topic to discuss since the lack of it can make one feel distracted, unmotivated, feel a sense of not accomplishing much. One of the several ingredients needed to reach your goals in life and feeling a sense of accomplishment is having focus.

So how can one gain focus, especially if one feels like they are either losing it or don’t have any focus? I think the best way is to be present. When you are present, you are mindful of this moment you are living. Being present means living the very moment the way it is, with no worries of the past or the future. When you are present, the moment that matters is this very moment. How does this tie in with focus? Well, to be focused, you have to pay attention to what you are doing at the moment. Being focused requires you to put your energy on what you are doing at that time. Think about this for a moment, how can you be focused on what you are doing when at the same time you are thinking about what needs to be done next or how you forgot to do something? There is no way you can be focused when physically you are there but mentally and emotionally you are not. So with this said, the best way to be focused is to learn to be mindful, be present. This may not be easy at first but it is the way to get yourself to that point of achieving more in life.

Another thing that I would like to add is to consider your view on what it is that you are doing. Are the things that you choose to focus on meaningful to you? We also tend to lose focus when we are doing things that don’t have much meaning to us. If instead you view what you are doing now as the most important thing to do at the moment, this can help with your focus. Choose to do things that mean something to you. Where your emotions are, that’s where you are going to pour so much of your energy and attention.

Having focus doesn’t have to be a complicated thing. Start to be more mindful and do your best to do things that truly have meaning to you. Part of achieving your goals in life and getting more out of life does come from being focused.
