Take Off the Blindfold!

Blindfolds are only good for sleeping, they are not good to be wearing as you are going about your day. You need clarity in life, you need transparency, you need to know where you are going- something that a blindfold prevents you from having.

The blindfold that I am referring is clearly not the actual blindfold that some may wear at night. The blindfold that I am referring to is the invisible one that we sometimes decide to wear. Yes, I dare to write that “we sometimes decide to wear” because at any moment, we can decide to see things for what they are.

First, I want to start of by discussing why one may decide to wear a blindfold. There may be several reasons but I believe the most basic and biggest one and I would dare say THE reason is the needs that one may have. Yes, needs can be a bitch. The need to feel loved, the need to feel accepted and the need to belong, those basic human needs can make us a slave willing to wear a blindfold. Needs when not met can make us very hungry and it is that hunger that drives us to wear that blindfold.

Blindfolds are horrible for everyday life because they don’t allow you to see where you are going. You make yourself vulnerable to tripping and falling which can lead you to hurting yourself so badly. Not knowing where you are going can make you feel vulnerable and not in a good way. Not knowing where you are going can lead you to make unwise decisions. Not knowing where you are going makes you allow anything that come your way and I can tell you from personal experience that not everything that comes your way may be for good. This is why it is important to know where you are going.

Blindfolds prevent you from seeing what is in front of you. Many times people hint us as to who they really are and what their intentions are but we decide to ignore them because we feel the need to belong or feel loved or be accepted. Because not everything that comes your way may be good, it is important to already know that you are love and are loved so that you can come from a place of clearly seeing who the person that is in front of you is and what their intentions are towards you. You don’t want to ignore red flags.

The best way to prevent wearing a blindfold is to understand what makes you wear one to begin with. It is only through understanding that you are able to know what triggers this. Remember that blindfolds are not good for you to wear when it comes to everyday life- they prevent you from seeing where you are going and what is in front of you.

You Need Cojones!

What I’m about to write will perhaps sound so silly but to me it isn’t because of the meaning that this has for me. I went last month to the Department of Driver Services in Atlanta to get my Georgia State ID without realizing that I had to give up both my NY State ID and my permit. I couldn’t even keep my NY State ID as a memorabilia. As I gave up my ID and permit, I had a mixture of emotions that ranged from shock to sadness to excitement all at once. As I was leaving the DDS with my paper state ID, I realized that to live that life that you want, no matter what it is, you need cojones.

Cojones in Spanish means “balls” so in essence, you need balls or courage to live that life that you want. There are many things that will feel intimidating and most likely that’s because what you’re doing is something new to you. Anything that is new will be intimidating. What you can not allow is your fear of something new stop you from doing what you want to do.

You need cojones to do what you want to do even when others don’t understand why you want to do what you want to do and even if they don’t agree with you. In the end, you are the one living your life, no one is living it for you so you need to do what makes sense to you, not others. The only person that you truly owe any explanation to is to yourself.

You need cojones to dare, to dare to be you, to dare to dream, to dare to leap. There are times that it may not be easy to be your true self but yet it is a must. Who else are you supposed to be if not yourself?! Besides, if you’re not your true self, you don’t attract those that are truly meant to be in your life. There are times that dreaming for some can be scary, especially when they are big dreams but yet we must still dare. You will never know what you are capable of having and being unless you dream and try.

Having cojones is so necessary for your well-being because the frustration of many is the very fact that they may not be living the life that they really want. Living authentically is so crucial to your mental and emotional sanity whether you realize it or not. We all reach a point in our life where we will wonder if we have reached our full potential and if we are all that we can be. So start building up those cojones!

The World Indeed Is a School Where The People You Meet And Your Experiences Are Your Teachers

The older I’m getting, the more I realize that even after graduating from college, we never stop being students. We are forever growing and learning from this school called Life. There are still so many lessons that we must learn that we can only learn through either other people or our experiences and unless we master and learn those lessons, we’ll just keep repeating that class, over and over again until we learn.

How many of you have been through the same pain, over and over again? I know I have and for certain things, still do. Have you ever wondered why you keep going through the same thing over and over again just with different people? When faced with situations like these, ask yourself, what is the lesson behind what is happening? Is there something that you are meant to be learning that you are missing? In what way can you grow and become a better person because of this experience or person? If this person caused (or what you perceived that this person caused you) a very emotional response in you, the lesson is even more important and profound. It is actually more essential for you to find out what this lesson is so that you can move on and be a better version of yourself.

I’m truly a believer that if you allow yourself, every person and experience can mold you and shape you into a better version of you the way that you are meant to be. No experience needs to knock you down to the point of not being able to get up. On the contrary, the experiences that provoke the highest and strongest emotions for you can be what provides a turning point in your life towards a better direction.

Indeed the world is a school where everyone you meet and your experiences are your teachers and it is best for your overall well-being that you become open to those lessons and willing to being a better version of yourself.
